03/5My meal plan

My meal plan

My breakfast: A glass of milk, an apple and a portion of poha or upma

My lunch: One chapati, a bowl of vegetables, a bowl of dal, a portion of salad a bowl of curd.

My dinner: Sooji dhokla, besan dhokla or oil-free besan cheela. I stick to steamed food during the dinner.

Pre-workout meal: One banana

Post-workout meal: I have a cup of green tea and any fruit, 30 minutes later

I indulge in: I did not take even a single cheat meal or cheat day till the time I did not achieve my desired weight. Now, since I am looking to maintain my weight, I go for Italian cuisines like Pizza, Pasta or Risotto on my cheat days.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Whatever I ate, I made sure to add a lot of fresh vegetables to it, especially the leafy ones. Also, recipes like sooji dhokla, upma, poha, vermicelli are incredibly healthy and tasty both.

04/5My workout routine

My workout routine

Since I lost all my weight during the lockdown, I did not take any professional training for weight loss. My younger brother guided me during this journey and I did not stick to any particular workout regime. My workout routine consisted of running 5 kilometers every day, climbing up and down 7 floors for at least 3 times in a row, brisk walking for at least 4 kilometers and cross trainer for 15 minutes. I included exercises like jumping jacks, squats, lunges and side-kicks in my routine. I used to workout twice a day for an hour each and did not miss even a single day before completing my 100 days.

Fitness secrets I unveiled: I have stopped eating after 7 pm and do not eat anything before 9 am. This method has done wonders for my body. Also, I completely removed sugar from my diet and did not add it even to tea or coffee. I gave up fried food and relied more on fresh fruits and vegetables.

How do I stay motivated? Losing 28 kilos in 100 days was obviously not easy. Initially, it was incredibly difficult to stay focused and stay motivated. However, when you see the numbers on the weighing scale go down with every passing day, you feel relieved. So, I continued my quest to lose weight.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus? When you start seeing changes in your body, your confidence level slowly starts going up and you also feel more energetic than before. Hence, all these little and big changes in the way I looked and felt kept me focused on my journey.

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? When you are overweight, you feel exhausted all the time. You even start taking naps in the afternoon. Moreover, you have less clothing options and people come and keep offering unsolicited advise. It was extremely annoying.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I want to maintain my current shape and don’t want to go back to how I was.

05/5What are the lifestyle changes you made?

What are the lifestyle changes you made?

I turned towards healthy eating, I started working out in the morning and began sleeping before 11 pm, while earlier I used to hit the sheets by 2 am. These changes have positively impacted my weight loss journey as I feel more energetic than before.

What was the lowest point for you? Since I was very casual and carefree about my health, I never really paid any attention to working out. So, when I started working out, it was very difficult for me to cope with all the pain that came with it. Every morning after waking up, I used to doubt whether or not I should continue my weight loss journey. However, I knew that if I stopped working out the pain would never truly go away. So, I decided to stick to my workout routine as much as it pained me and I am glad that I stuck to it.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: The biggest lesson that I have learnt from my weight loss journey is that anything is possible through immense patience and perseverance. I have also gained a lot of strength during this weight loss journey.
